Telesat, an Ottawa-based company, has been awarded a $1.6 billion contract by Canada's Defense Investment Agency to provide secure military satellite communications in the Arctic region. This contract is part of the Enhanced Satellite Communications Project
– Polar (ESCP-P), which aims to strengthen Northern and Arctic sovereignty. Telesat will deliver military Ka-band connectivity over five years, with options for two additional five-year terms. The project involves expanding Telesat's Lightspeed Low Earth Orbit network by 69 satellites, enhancing coverage for the Canadian Armed Forces.
