What's Happening?
Minor Hotels has announced plans to open its first hotel in Malta, the NH Collection Sliema, through a franchise agreement. The hotel is set to open by the end of 2026 and will be located in the coastal
town of Sliema. The new-build hotel will feature 268 guest rooms and suites, including amenities such as a spa and wellness center, a rooftop bar with sea views, a swimming pool, and a restaurant. The location is near the seafront promenade, shops, and local restaurants, and is less than 10 kilometers from Malta's capital, Valletta. This development is part of Minor Hotels' strategy to expand its franchising model, aiming to balance owned and leased properties with managed and franchised properties to scale its operations.
Why It's Important?
The opening of NH Collection Sliema marks a significant expansion for Minor Hotels, as it ventures into the Maltese market. This move is part of a broader strategy to increase franchise opportunities in both established markets and new regions, such as the Balkans and the CIS. By adopting a franchise model, Minor Hotels offers investors access to its brands, distribution systems, loyalty programs, sales force, revenue management, and support services. This approach is intended to foster partnerships with local stakeholders and create long-term value for investors. The expansion into Malta could enhance the country's tourism sector, attracting more visitors and boosting local businesses.
What's Next?
Minor Hotels plans to continue pursuing franchise opportunities in various regions, with a focus on expanding its presence in both established and emerging markets. Sandra Cremesini has been appointed as Senior Vice President Franchise Support for Minor Hotels Europe & Americas to support this expansion. Her experience in international franchise management will be crucial in navigating the complexities of new market entries and ensuring successful partnerships. As the NH Collection Sliema project progresses, stakeholders will likely monitor its impact on Malta's tourism industry and local economy.
