What's Happening?
51Talk, an online English learning platform, has enabled young learners from the Middle East and Southeast Asia to participate in a United Nations-aligned youth speaking initiative during COP30 in Belém, Brazil. The initiative, now in its third year,
allows children from countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE, Turkey, Thailand, and Vietnam to share their perspectives on climate and environmental protection. Participants delivered speeches on a global stage, bringing local observations into the international conversation. The program, titled GreenTalk: Speak for Future, emphasizes the role of language as a bridge to global participation. Students also engaged in rainforest exploration and cultural activities, gaining firsthand experience in biodiversity conservation and sustainability.
Why It's Important?
This initiative by 51Talk highlights the importance of empowering young voices in global discussions on climate change. By providing a platform for children to express their views, the program fosters confidence, empathy, and a deeper understanding of global issues. It also demonstrates the potential of online education to prepare children for international dialogue, bridging cultural and generational gaps. The participation of young learners in such high-profile events underscores the growing recognition of youth as key stakeholders in addressing climate challenges. This initiative not only enhances English proficiency but also encourages active engagement in environmental advocacy.
