What's Happening?
Winvic has commenced construction on a logistics depot for Carlsberg Britvic at the West Midlands Interchange (WMI) in Staffordshire. The project, valued at £39.4 million, involves building a 20,439-square meter depot with sustainability features such as rainwater harvesting and photovoltaic coverage. The development is part of a larger 734-acre site that includes a dedicated rail terminal for freight movement. The depot is designed to meet high environmental standards and is expected to be completed by spring 2026. This marks the first vertical build at WMI, a significant logistics development in the UK.
Why It's Important?
The construction of the Carlsberg Britvic depot at WMI is a key development in enhancing the UK's logistics infrastructure. By incorporating sustainable design elements, the project aligns with broader environmental goals and supports the transition to a low-carbon economy. The depot is expected to generate significant economic benefits, including job creation and increased efficiency in logistics operations. As part of a larger development, WMI aims to become a major hub for rail-served logistics, attracting blue-chip companies and boosting regional economic growth.
