DuPagePads, a Wheaton-based organization dedicated to assisting homeless individuals, has been awarded a $5 million grant from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund, established by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez Bezos. This significant funding will enable DuPagePads to enhance
its programs aimed at transitioning families from shelters to permanent housing. The grant will support educational initiatives for children residing at the organization's housing center, ensuring they have access to school and extracurricular activities. Currently, DuPagePads accommodates 305 individuals, including 108 children, at its Intermediate Housing Center in Downers Grove, a facility that offers private rooms for families. The organization also plans to expand its street outreach program and establish a fund to assist families with initial rental costs. This grant is part of a broader $102.5 million distribution by the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund to 32 organizations across 20 states, the District of Columbia, and Guam.
