What's Happening?
The County of Maui Department of Agriculture is organizing a series of workshops to assist nonprofits and for-profit businesses in preparing for the Fiscal Year 2027 grant application period. The workshops,
scheduled from June 8 to June 18, 2026, will cover eligibility, grant requirements, and the application process. The grant applications will be accepted from June 22 to July 22, 2026. The department is prioritizing funding for agricultural infrastructure, operations, education, recovery, livestock, non-food agriculture, and feral animal control, with a special focus on supporting operations on Moloka‘i and Lāna‘i.
Why It's Important?
These workshops are crucial for local agricultural entities seeking financial support to enhance their operations. By focusing on infrastructure and recovery, the grants aim to bolster the agricultural sector, which is vital for the local economy and food security. The emphasis on Moloka‘i and Lāna‘i highlights the need to support less developed areas, ensuring equitable growth across the county. Successful grant applications could lead to significant improvements in agricultural productivity and sustainability, benefiting the broader community.
What's Next?
Following the workshops, interested parties will have a month to submit their grant applications. The County Department of Agriculture will likely review these applications to determine funding allocations. The outcomes of this process could lead to increased investment in local agriculture, potentially influencing future policy decisions and funding priorities. Stakeholders, including local farmers and community leaders, will be closely monitoring the grant distribution to assess its impact on the region's agricultural landscape.
