What's Happening?
The Inclusive Policy Fellowship 2025, supported by the Australian Government and The Asia Foundation, has graduated 28 young Cambodian researchers. This initiative, part of the Ponlok Chomnes II program, aims to enhance Cambodia's policy research ecosystem
by fostering evidence-based decision-making. The fellowship provided intensive training in policy analysis and public engagement, culminating in the publication of 'Small Ideas for Inclusive Futures,' which features 30 policy proposals. These proposals address economic and social challenges, including progressive taxation and gender-responsive infrastructure. The program emphasizes the importance of human capital in Cambodia's transition to an upper-middle-income economy.
Why It's Important?
The fellowship is crucial for Cambodia's economic and social development as it seeks to diversify its economy and improve public policy. By investing in human capital, the program aims to equip young researchers with the skills needed to contribute to national development discussions. This initiative aligns with Australia's broader support for Cambodia's future leaders and workforce development. The policy proposals generated by the fellows could influence Cambodia's approach to economic transformation and urbanization, addressing structural challenges and promoting inclusive growth.
What's Next?
The graduates are expected to engage with national media, public forums, and policymakers to further inform discussions on Cambodia's development. The Ponlok Chomnes II program will continue to strengthen collaboration between policymakers, researchers, and communities, promoting gender equality and social inclusion. As Cambodia integrates into regional and global markets, the fellowship aims to cultivate a new generation of leaders capable of contributing to evidence-informed policymaking.
