What's Happening?
Telkom Indonesia's international arm, Telin, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Malaysian engineering company ITCO Niaga to develop the Indonesia Cable Express II (ICE II) subsea cable system. This collaboration aims to extend connectivity to eastern Malaysia, specifically Tawau in Sabah, with additional links planned for Sandakan, Kudat, and Kota Kinabalu. The ICE II project, part of Telin's broader ICE program, seeks to establish a new eastward route for Southeast Asia through Manado, offering an alternative to the South China Sea corridor. This initiative is expected to enhance the resilience of regional telecom networks, mitigate congestion risks, and provide scalable capacity to support growing demand for cloud computing, digital services, and enterprise connectivity.
