What's Happening?
Amprion, a diagnostics company based in San Diego, has announced a strategic licensing collaboration with MLM Medical Labs, a central and specialty laboratory group with operations in Germany, the U.S., and South Africa. This agreement will enable MLM Medical Labs to validate
and run Amprion's proprietary seed amplification assay (SAA) methodology in-house at its German laboratory. The test, known as SAAmplify-αSYN, detects misfolded α-synuclein protein aggregates, which are indicative of conditions like Parkinson's disease, Lewy body dementia, and multiple system atrophy. This expansion aims to make the test accessible to biopharma sponsors conducting clinical trials across Europe, eliminating the need to ship samples across the Atlantic. The SAAmplify-αSYN test received Breakthrough Device Designation from the FDA in 2019 for aiding Parkinson's diagnosis and has been commercially available in the U.S. since 2021.

Amprion has also launched a new subsidiary, SAA Protein Manufacturing, LLC, to produce standardized protein substrates essential for these tests.
