What's Happening?
The Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department in Tripura, with support from the Central government, is converting 21 agricultural markets into e-markets. This initiative aims to enhance farmers' income by enabling them to sell their products nationwide through the Electronic National Agriculture Market scheme. Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced the plan during the inauguration of a new market and Village Knowledge Centre in Dhalai district. The state currently has 554 agricultural markets, including 84 wholesale markets, of which 21 are agri-produce markets. The conversion process will initially include seven markets, with plans to expand to 12 more. Each market will be equipped with necessary facilities such as offices, auction platforms, and warehouses. The Central government has allocated Rs 2.10 crore for the first phase of this project.
