An experiment conducted in the United States has revealed that providing cash payments to low-income mothers can alter the biological aging process in their children. The study, which involved a randomized controlled trial, assigned 1,000 low-income mothers to two
groups: one receiving $333 per month unconditionally and another receiving $20 per month. These monthly payments were distributed from the birth of their babies until the children were approximately 6 years and 4 months old. When the children reached age four, saliva samples were collected from both the children and their mothers for DNA pattern analysis. Researchers utilized the 'DunedinPACE' index, which measures biological aging based on DNA methylation, to assess the impact of the cash payments. The analysis indicated that children whose mothers received the higher monthly benefit of $333 exhibited a slightly slower rate of biological aging compared to those whose mothers received $20. Interestingly, no significant difference was observed in the biological aging rate of the mothers themselves, suggesting the effect is specific to early childhood development.
