Education Ministers from over 25 countries, convened by UNESCO during its Digital Learning Week, have issued a joint statement affirming education as a human right and a common good, particularly in the era of artificial intelligence (AI). This declaration
underscores the global commitment to ensuring that educational access and quality are maintained and enhanced despite the rapid technological shifts brought about by AI. UNESCO has been actively shaping the global discourse on AI and education, having published the first-ever Guidance for generative AI in education and research in 2023. This was followed by AI competency frameworks for students and teachers in 2024, designed to address both the opportunities and risks associated with AI. Since 2024, UNESCO has conducted seminars on its AI Competency Frameworks, engaging thousands of educators and policymakers from over 100 countries. Furthermore, the organization has directly supported 58 countries in developing frameworks, curricula, and quality-assured training programs focused on digital and AI competencies.
