What's Happening?
Woodland Heritage, a leading UK woodland charity, has been awarded a £238,442 grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. This funding will be used to launch the 'Woodland Heritage Skills' initiative, which aims to promote the use of home-grown timber
through educational workshops and digital resources. The initiative will include two years of educational activities and collaboration with members, featuring Open Woods & Workshops, a series of open days granting access to rarely seen forestry locations. The project also benefits from £13,547 in matched funding from Gaze Burvill, an outdoor furniture manufacturer and corporate member of Woodland Heritage.
Why It's Important?
The grant to Woodland Heritage is significant as it supports the promotion of sustainable forestry practices and the use of local timber, which can have positive environmental and economic impacts. By educating the public and industry stakeholders about the benefits of home-grown timber, the initiative could lead to increased demand for local wood products, supporting local economies and reducing reliance on imported timber. Additionally, the project aligns with broader environmental goals by encouraging sustainable forestry management and conservation efforts.
