What's Happening?
Madhya Pradesh is playing a pivotal role in India's National Pulses Self-Reliance Mission, aimed at boosting domestic pulse production. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, alongside Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan,
inaugurated the National Pulses Mission portal at a conference in Sehore. The state has been allocated ₹354 crore to enhance pulse production, which is crucial for both nutritional and economic reasons. The mission targets a production increase to 350 lakh tonnes by 2030-31, reducing import dependency and increasing farmers' income. Madhya Pradesh, already a leading pulse producer, is expected to benefit significantly from this initiative. The event also saw the inauguration of ICARDA's new facilities, which will aid in developing high-yielding pulse varieties.
