What's Happening?
BAE Systems has introduced a new family of warheads, named BlackThorn, at the Farnborough International Airshow 2026. These warheads are designed for unmanned and missile systems, including blast, fragmentation, anti-armour, and multi-effect types for various
munitions sizes. The BlackThorn family features a modular design and electronic safety systems, suitable for platforms like counter-unmanned aerial vehicle systems and unmanned ground vehicles. The warheads are currently in low-rate initial production for testing and evaluation, with production taking place at BAE's Glascoed site in Wales.
