Dr. Tobias Janowitz has been appointed as the new director of the Institute of Cancer Research at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research. In addition to this role, he will serve as the Robert and Janet Perro Professor in Cancer Research and director of Translational
Cancer Research at Northwell Health’s Cancer Institute. Dr. Janowitz will also continue to lead his established research program at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) Cancer Center, fostering a closer strategic affiliation between CSHL and Northwell. With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Janowitz's research focuses on the mechanisms driving cancer progression, particularly the metabolic, neuroendocrine, and immune circuits that influence disease progression and therapeutic response. His team has demonstrated how systemic stress from tumors alters energy metabolism, elevates stress hormones, and weakens the immune system, contributing to cancer cachexia.
