What's Happening?
Cambridgeshire Police have arrested two men following reports of hare coursing near Floods Ferry, March. The arrests were made after the police's rural crime action team pursued two vehicles, one heading towards March town center and another towards HMP
Whitemoor. The suspects abandoned their vehicles but were located with the assistance of drones and officers on the ground. A 52-year-old man was arrested for dangerous driving, failing to stop, and driving without insurance, while a 22-year-old man was arrested for failing to comply with a community protection notice. Both individuals have been bailed and are scheduled to appear in court in the new year.
Why It's Important?
The arrests highlight the ongoing issue of hare coursing, an illegal activity that poses significant challenges to rural law enforcement. Hare coursing not only threatens wildlife but also often involves other criminal activities such as trespassing and damage to property. The use of drones in this operation demonstrates the increasing reliance on technology by police forces to combat rural crime effectively. This case underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to tackle illegal hunting activities and protect rural communities from associated criminal behavior.
