A study led by Mayo Clinic researchers has identified IL-6 receptor blockers as a promising treatment for preventing relapses in myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD). MOGAD is a rare autoimmune disorder causing neurological
complications. The study, published in JAMA Neurology, evaluated the effectiveness of tocilizumab and satralizumab, two IL-6 receptor blockers, in reducing relapses. The study involved 116 patients across North and South America, making it the largest observational study of its kind. Results showed a significant reduction in relapses and a favorable safety profile, although infections remain a concern.
