What's Happening?
The state of Telangana has initiated the self-enumeration phase for Census-2027, starting on April 26 and running until May 10. Residents can participate by visiting the self-enumeration portal, se.census.gov.in, to answer 33 questions online between
6 a.m. and midnight. This marks the beginning of Phase-I of the census process, which will be followed by a field visit from enumerators to verify or collect data from May 11 to June 9. Phase-II, focusing on population enumeration, is scheduled for February 9 to 28, 2027, with a revisional round from March 1 to 5, 2027.
Why It's Important?
The self-enumeration initiative is a significant step in modernizing the census process, allowing for greater accuracy and efficiency in data collection. This approach empowers residents to participate actively in the census, potentially leading to more comprehensive demographic data. Accurate census data is crucial for policy-making, resource allocation, and planning at both state and national levels. It impacts various sectors, including education, healthcare, and infrastructure development, by providing insights into population trends and needs.
What's Next?
Following the self-enumeration phase, enumerators will conduct door-to-door visits to ensure data accuracy and completeness. This will be a critical step in verifying the information provided online and addressing any discrepancies. The subsequent phases of the census will continue to build on this data, culminating in a comprehensive demographic profile of Telangana. The success of this initiative could influence future census methodologies across India, promoting digital participation and reducing the reliance on traditional data collection methods.
