What's Happening?
A Hyderabad-based family was awarded Rs 1 lakh after their planned trip to the United Kingdom was canceled due to a visa rejection. The Rangareddy Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission found My Travel Buddy Services responsible for negligence in handling
the visa process, as the agency failed to submit necessary documents. The commission ordered the agency to refund Rs 83,485 collected from the family, along with interest and compensation. The family, led by Sangeeth Saurabh, had enrolled in a one-year visa services membership and paid additional fees for processing UK visitor visas. Despite attempts to contact the agency for clarification, the family received no satisfactory response, prompting them to seek relief from the consumer commission.
Why It's Important?
This case highlights the importance of accountability and consumer protection in the travel industry. The ruling serves as a warning to travel agencies about the consequences of negligence and emphasizes the need for thorough and accurate handling of visa applications. For consumers, it underscores the importance of choosing reliable service providers and being aware of their rights in case of service deficiencies. The decision also reflects the role of consumer commissions in addressing grievances and ensuring fair compensation for affected parties.
