What's Happening?
An Australian family from Sydney has become the first group of new immigrants, or 'olim', to Israel in 2026. The family, consisting of father Trevor, mother Dalit, and daughter Ashira, arrived at Ben-Gurion
Airport on January 1. Their son, Levi Zaks, had previously immigrated to Israel and is currently serving in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). This event marks the beginning of a new year of aliyah, the process of Jewish immigration to Israel, which is a significant cultural and demographic event for the country.
Why It's Important?
The arrival of the first olim of the year is a symbolic event that underscores the ongoing importance of aliyah in Israeli society. It highlights the continued connection between the global Jewish diaspora and Israel. The integration of new immigrants is crucial for Israel's demographic growth and cultural diversity. The participation of young immigrants like Levi Zaks in the IDF also emphasizes the role of aliyah in strengthening Israel's national security and social fabric. This event may inspire other Jewish families worldwide to consider aliyah, contributing to Israel's population and cultural enrichment.
