What's Happening?
Kering has introduced the Kering Craft program in China, aimed at nurturing local design talent. This initiative, developed in collaboration with the Shanghai Fashion Designers Association, seeks to identify
and support promising Chinese designers. Selected participants will engage in a residency program across Milan, Paris, and Shanghai, focusing on artisanship, design, and business insights. The program is part of Kering's strategy to empower Chinese designers to create 'glocal' brands—local brands with global potential. The announcement was made during the China International Import Expo, highlighting Kering's commitment to deepening its engagement with China's fashion industry.
Why It's Important?
China is a rapidly growing hub for innovation and creativity, making it a strategic focus for global luxury brands like Kering. By investing in local talent, Kering not only strengthens its presence in the Chinese market but also fosters cultural exchange and innovation in the fashion industry. This initiative could lead to the emergence of new global fashion brands from China, enhancing the diversity and dynamism of the global fashion landscape. It also reflects a broader trend of luxury brands seeking to integrate local and international visions to remain competitive.
