Synopsys, Inc. and GlobalFoundries have announced a new collaboration to launch a 'chip design to tapeout' program for universities worldwide. This initiative aims to provide students with hands-on experience in chip design and manufacturing, leveraging Synopsys' electronic design automation tools and GlobalFoundries' manufacturing capabilities. The program is being piloted at over 40 universities, offering access to industry-aligned coursework and practical experience. The collaboration seeks to lower the cost barrier to custom silicon, enabling academic institutions to turn design concepts into working silicon, thereby expanding opportunities for education, research, and workforce development.
