Mozilla Firefox has experienced a significant increase in its user base, gaining six million new users since 2024, largely due to the European Union's Digital Markets Act. This legislation requires major tech companies like Apple and Google to allow third-party
applications, including alternative web browsers, to be more accessible on their devices. As a result, Firefox has seen a 113% increase in users within Apple's ecosystem, including iPhones and Apple Watches. In contrast, the increase among Android users is 12%, attributed to the different ways each operating system presents browser options. The Act's implementation has also benefited other browsers like DuckDuckGo, Opera, Vivaldi, and Aloha, which have reported increased usage. Although these changes are currently limited to the EU, Mozilla and DuckDuckGo are advocating for similar measures in the UK.
