Smart Africa, an alliance initiated by seven African heads of state in 2013, is working towards creating a single digital market across the continent. The initiative, led by CEO Lacina Koné, has expanded to over 40 countries and focuses on policy harmonization,
digital infrastructure, and innovation funding. The Smart Africa Fund, supported by €100 million, aims to invest in scalable, sustainable tech solutions, particularly for underserved communities. The alliance is also addressing data sovereignty and ownership issues, advocating for sovereign data infrastructure to ensure national control and digital resilience.
