The Telangana state government is taking proactive measures to ensure an adequate supply of urea for the upcoming Rabi farming season. Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao announced that the state has
requested the central government to provide 2 lakh metric tonnes of urea per month from October to December. Currently, Telangana has a buffer stock of 2.48 lakh metric tonnes of fertilizers, and efforts are underway to increase these reserves by the end of December. The state has also received 86,000 metric tonnes of urea allocated for December, which has arrived at various ports. To expedite transportation, the minister has requested the Union Railway Minister and the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways to prioritize urea transportation.
Why It's Important?
Ensuring an adequate supply of urea is crucial for the agricultural sector in Telangana, particularly during the Rabi season when demand for fertilizers peaks. The government's efforts to secure and transport urea efficiently will help farmers maintain crop yields and support the state's agricultural economy. This initiative highlights the importance of coordination between state and central governments in addressing agricultural needs and ensuring food security.
What's Next?
The Telangana government will continue to monitor the transportation and distribution of urea to ensure timely delivery to farmers. Coordination with central authorities and port officials will be crucial in preventing delays. The success of these efforts will be vital for the agricultural sector's performance during the Rabi season.
