The U.S. Department of Energy has closed a $1.6 billion loan guarantee to American Electric Power (AEP) for the reconstruction of approximately 5,000 miles of transmission lines across five Midwest states: Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, and West Virginia.
This initiative is part of a broader $23 billion assistance package aimed at enhancing transmission, energy storage, and grid modernization. The loan is expected to support the growing electricity demand, particularly from data centers, artificial intelligence, and manufacturing sectors.
