What's Happening?
The United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY) has released its 2026 Outstanding International Books list, featuring 41 titles from 24 countries. These books, published in 2025, are recognized
for their exceptional quality and their ability to expose young readers to diverse perspectives and experiences. The list includes works from countries such as Argentina, Lithuania, Nigeria, South Korea, and Sweden, and covers universal themes like identity, hope, intergenerational bonds, and cultural heritage. The announcement was made ahead of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) Winter Conference in New York City. USBBY, a nonprofit organization, serves as the U.S. national section of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) and has been curating these lists since 2006 to foster empathy and cultural understanding among young readers.
