What's Happening?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo (BRESE) 2026 on November 2, 2026, in New Delhi. Organized by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), the four-day event, running from November 2 to 5,
aims to mobilize approximately $220 billion in investment for India's renewable energy sector between 2027 and 2030. The summit, themed 'Invest. Innovate. Inspire.', will bring together participants from over 130 countries, including policymakers, global investors, industry leaders, manufacturers, and technology providers. MNRE Secretary Santosh Sarangi stated that India has already installed 308 GW of non-fossil fuel-based power capacity and is on track to achieve its target of 500 GW by 2030. The event will also host the ninth session of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly and the fourth International Conference on Green Hydrogen, fostering discussions on international cooperation, clean energy financing, and technology deployment.
Why It's Important?
This summit is critical for India's clean energy ambitions and its role in the global energy transition. The target of $220 billion in investment highlights the significant financial commitment required to achieve the 500 GW renewable energy capacity by 2030. This investment is essential for accelerating the deployment of energy storage, strengthening transmission networks, and expanding domestic manufacturing capabilities, which are crucial for integrating a growing share of renewable energy into the grid. The participation of nine countries and regional blocs as country partners, including Australia, Denmark, the European Union, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, underscores the international recognition of India's efforts and the collaborative nature of global clean energy initiatives. The event also provides a platform for 13 Indian states and Union Territories to showcase their renewable energy potential, attracting both domestic and international investment.
What's Next?
The Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026 will proceed with a series of discussions covering investment opportunities, energy storage, transmission infrastructure, clean energy manufacturing, emerging technologies, and workforce development. These discussions are expected to lead to concrete plans and partnerships that will help India achieve its ambitious renewable energy targets. The concurrent ISA Assembly will focus on priorities related to solar deployment, financing, and capacity building, exploring ways to replicate India's successful initiatives like PM-KUSUM and PM Surya Ghar in other countries. The outcomes of the summit are anticipated to influence policy decisions, investment flows, and technological advancements in the clean energy sector, both within India and globally. The event's focus on international cooperation is expected to strengthen global efforts towards a sustainable energy future.
