What's Happening?
The Nature Positive Tourism Partnership, comprising the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), UN Tourism, and the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, is launching a webinar series to promote nature conservation in tourism. The initiative seeks to address
the gap in business efforts to support nature protection, despite opportunities to align with national conservation priorities. The series will provide guidance on identifying priority action areas, aligning operations with biodiversity issues, and forming effective partnerships to drive meaningful change.
Why It's Important?
The initiative represents a significant step towards integrating environmental sustainability into the travel and tourism industry. By encouraging businesses to adopt nature-positive practices, the partnership aims to mitigate the environmental impact of tourism and promote sustainable livelihoods. This approach not only benefits the environment but also enhances the reputation and competitiveness of destinations that prioritize conservation. As consumers increasingly demand sustainable travel options, businesses that align with these values may gain a competitive edge.
What's Next?
The webinar series will continue with sessions focusing on monitoring nature-related risks and impacts, and reducing environmental impact through supply chain collaboration. These sessions aim to equip businesses with the tools and knowledge needed to implement sustainable practices effectively. The ongoing dialogue and collaboration among industry stakeholders are expected to foster a more sustainable tourism sector, with potential policy implications at both national and international levels.
