The research, published in The Lancet Public Health, found that participants who reported higher levels of leisure-time physical activity had a 24% lower risk of dementia compared to those who were least active. Conversely, individuals with physically demanding jobs showed a 20% higher risk of dementia. The study tracked participants, aged 45 to 93, for an average of 10 years. Natan Feter, a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Southern California and a study author, noted that these findings challenge the long-held assumption that 'every move counts' for brain health, emphasizing the context of physical activity.
