What's Happening?
FinnCobalt Oy, a Finnish subsidiary of Eurobattery Minerals AB, has joined the EUMINDA project, an EU-funded initiative focused on improving mining region management concerning mine closure, restoration, and long-term environmental and social impacts.
FinnCobalt participated in the 2nd EUMINDA Interregional Meeting held in Western Macedonia, Greece, alongside representatives from regional authorities, research institutions, and industry across Europe. The project aims to strengthen responsible mining practices through dialogue, knowledge exchange, and policy development, emphasizing the importance of integrating closure and restoration planning into project design from the outset.
Why It's Important?
Participation in the EUMINDA project underscores FinnCobalt's commitment to responsible mining, which extends beyond operations to include long-term site restoration. This initiative is crucial for developing effective governance frameworks for mine closure and restoration, addressing the environmental, social, and economic legacies of historical mining. By integrating these lessons into project development, Eurobattery Minerals aims to ensure sites are environmentally safe and suitable for future use, thereby earning public trust and attracting long-term investment. The project also contributes to Europe's sustainability transition and industrial competitiveness by securing access to responsibly produced raw materials.
