What's Happening?
A sculpture titled 'Pursuit of Happiness,' designed by 12-year-old Nathan Adeosun, has been unveiled in downtown Elgin, Illinois, commemorating America250. The artwork, located at the corner of Prairie Street and South Riverside Drive, features a large
monarch butterfly with a replica of the Statue of Liberty at its center. The wings depict a woman holding a child, a dancing woman, and a man playing a guitar. The base of the butterfly shows two hands, one dark brown and one white, clasped together, symbolizing unity. This project was a collaborative effort initiated by Side Street Studio Arts, the Elgin Cultural Arts Commission, Your Neighbor Elgin, and the Illinois Arts Council, which invited young people to submit their visions for America's future. Nathan's design was selected, and various artists and community members, including welder Jimmy Weigele and Freddrick Wimms of Your Neighbor Elgin, helped bring his concept to life. Nathan expressed that his vision for the future includes equality, justice, freedom, peace, and a unified nation, where individuals can pursue their dreams without limits.
