What's Happening?
The Santa Barbara Zoo announced the death of its second red panda cub, which had been in intensive care since July 19. The cub was not nursing properly from its mother and was placed in a temperature-controlled incubator, receiving tube and bottle feedings,
antibiotics, and veterinary monitoring. Despite intensive treatment, including fluid therapy and supplemental oxygen, the cub's condition deteriorated, and it passed away. A necropsy revealed significant pericardial effusion and lung congestion. The zoo's red pandas, Ruby and Raj, are reportedly doing well.
