What's Happening?
HII's Newport News Shipbuilding has placed an order for two custom ARCEMY® systems from AML3D, valued at approximately A$4.5 million (US$2.9 million). These systems are designed for large-scale additive manufacturing and will be used in various shipbuilding
applications. The ARCEMY® systems are expected to be operational by the second quarter of 2026. This acquisition is part of HII's strategy to integrate advanced manufacturing technologies to reduce lead times and environmental impact while maintaining high manufacturing standards.
Why It's Important?
The integration of AML3D's advanced additive manufacturing technology into HII's operations signifies a shift towards more sustainable and efficient production methods in the shipbuilding industry. By reducing lead times and waste, these technologies can enhance the competitiveness of U.S. shipbuilding, particularly in defense applications. This move aligns with broader governmental initiatives to revitalize domestic manufacturing capabilities. The adoption of such technologies could also set a precedent for other industries, promoting innovation and environmental responsibility.
