What's Happening?
Shanna Combley, a Program Manager at NASA, is spearheading efforts within the Earth Science Division at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Her role involves managing the Earth Action Energy and Infrastructure program and the Mission Engagement program.
These initiatives aim to provide actionable data to support decision-making in energy production, efficiency, and management, as well as power systems planning and sustainable infrastructure. Combley oversees projects like the Short-term Prediction Research and Transition Center (SPoRT) and Prediction of Worldwide Energy Resources (POWER). She also plays a significant role in international collaborations, co-chairing the International Affairs Working Group for the U.S. Group on Earth Observations (USGEO). With a background in meteorology and extensive experience at NOAA, Combley is well-equipped to bridge scientific innovation with practical applications.
Why It's Important?
Combley's work is crucial in addressing the growing need for sustainable energy solutions and resilient infrastructure. By providing data-driven insights, her programs help stakeholders make informed decisions that can lead to more efficient energy use and better infrastructure planning. This is particularly important as the U.S. and other countries face challenges related to climate change and energy resource management. Her leadership in international collaborations also ensures that the U.S. remains at the forefront of global efforts to address these issues, fostering innovation and cooperation across borders.
