What's Happening?
Vertiv and AirTrunk are enhancing their data centre operations in Malaysia through significant expansions and renewable energy initiatives. Vertiv has opened a new manufacturing facility in Johor, aimed at supporting the growing demand for AI and high-density
computing infrastructure across Asia. This facility will provide end-to-end manufacturing, assembly, and testing for advanced thermal and power infrastructure, creating hundreds of skilled jobs by 2027. Concurrently, AirTrunk, in collaboration with ib vogt, has launched a 29.99 MWac solar project under Malaysia's Corporate Green Power Programme. This project marks the first renewable energy virtual power purchase agreement for a data centre in Malaysia, contributing to AirTrunk's goal of matching 100% of its electricity consumption with renewable energy by 2030.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of data centre operations by Vertiv and AirTrunk highlights the increasing demand for sustainable and efficient digital infrastructure in Asia. Vertiv's new facility will enhance the company's ability to deliver high-density solutions, reducing deployment risks and accelerating capacity for enterprise, cloud, and colocation environments. AirTrunk's renewable energy initiative supports Malaysia's grid and aligns with global trends towards sustainable energy consumption in data centres. These developments not only bolster Malaysia's position as a hub for digital infrastructure but also contribute to the country's renewable energy goals, fostering economic growth and job creation in the region.
