What's Happening?
Prudential Singapore and the SG Eco Fund have partnered to launch the Healthy Harvest initiative, focusing on community gardening to enhance climate and health resilience. This initiative involves the creation of inclusive community gardens at Telok Blangah
and West Coast, designed to engage seniors, youth, and persons with disabilities in sustainable food-growing practices. The gardens feature wheelchair-accessible raised beds and spaces for workshops, composting drives, and produce distribution. The initiative aims to promote healthier lifestyles through improved nutrition and outdoor activity, while also fostering stronger community connections and collective responsibility towards environmental sustainability.
Why It's Important?
The initiative is significant as it addresses multiple societal challenges, including climate change, health, and social inclusion. By engaging diverse community members in sustainable practices, the program not only promotes environmental awareness but also enhances social cohesion. The focus on inclusivity ensures that vulnerable groups are actively involved, potentially improving their quality of life through better nutrition and social interaction. Additionally, the initiative aligns with broader sustainability goals, such as the Singapore Green Plan 2030, and demonstrates how corporate and community partnerships can drive meaningful change.
What's Next?
The Healthy Harvest initiative plans to achieve measurable outcomes, including the collection of 6,000 kilograms of food waste for composting and the distribution of 3,000 kilograms of fresh produce. Over 1,000 participants, including Prudential employees and customers, will engage in workshops on sustainable gardening and healthy eating. The initiative is part of Prudential's SG60 community investment program, which has increased its funding to expand activities at the community gardens. This expansion aims to deepen engagement with local residents and further integrate sustainability into community programs.
