Baramati-based Agrovision Foundation and the National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning (NBSSLUP) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to deploy artificial intelligence in Vidarbha's agricultural
systems. This partnership aims to develop AI-driven decision tools for crops, soils, irrigation, and climate management, specifically targeting Vidarbha's cotton, toor, and citrus ecosystems. The collaboration seeks to create a cloud-linked agronomy stack to provide farmers with hyper-local insights, enhancing precision in fertiliser dosage, irrigation scheduling, and pest forecasting.

The integration of AI in agriculture represents a significant shift towards technological advancement in farming practices. By providing precise recommendations, AI can reduce cultivation costs and minimize pesticide misuse, addressing health concerns linked to excessive pesticide exposure. Standard Operating Procedures for AI-led cultivation in Vidarbha are under preparation, with Microsoft providing technological support. The initiative will focus on irrigation as a strategic input, mapping crop-wise water demand and soil moisture dynamics. The collaboration aims to establish Vidarbha as India's first AI-ready agricultural region, potentially serving as a model for other regions.
