What's Happening?
NASA's Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) has conducted over 140 hours of observations on the magnetar 1E 1547-5408. This research, carried out between March and April 2025, may have captured empty space behaving in a manner predicted by physicists
for 90 years but never directly observed. Magnetars are a unique class of neutron stars with extremely strong magnetic fields, approximately a trillion times stronger than the most powerful magnets on Earth. These observations could provide new insights into the behavior of space under extreme magnetic conditions.
