Durham Police reported receiving more than 4,000 calls during the festive period, including nearly 300 emergency calls on Christmas Day alone. Between December 24 and 29, the control room staff managed 1,783 emergency 999 calls and 2,269 non-emergency

Earlier in the year, Durham Police had announced that their control room staff answered 91.7% of 999 calls within 10 seconds, meeting national standards.
