What's Happening?
Al Fornaro, head coach of Xaverian Brothers High School, has been named the New England Patriots High School Coach of the Week following his team's upset victory over the previously undefeated Catholic
Memorial Knights. The Xaverian Hawks secured a 25-22 win, marking their first victory against Catholic Memorial since 2018. The game was highlighted by key plays, including a 25-yard touchdown run by senior Christian McIntyre and a game-winning 23-yard field goal by junior kicker Zander Govostes. NFL Hall of Fame linebacker Andre Tippett, representing the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation, presented a $1,000 donation to the Xaverian football program in recognition of Coach Fornaro's leadership.
Why It's Important?
The recognition of Coach Fornaro underscores the New England Patriots' commitment to supporting youth football and community engagement. By honoring high school coaches, the Patriots not only promote the sport but also emphasize the importance of leadership and character development in young athletes. This initiative highlights the role of sports in fostering community spirit and providing opportunities for young players to excel both on and off the field. The program also encourages community involvement by inviting nominations for outstanding coaches, thereby strengthening ties between the team and local communities.
What's Next?
The Patriots will continue their High School Coach of the Week program, accepting nominations for coaches who demonstrate exceptional leadership and achieve significant milestones. At the end of the season, one coach will be named the New England Patriots High School Coach of the Year, receiving an additional $2,000 for their school's football program. This ongoing initiative will be featured on the Patriots' weekly television program, 'Patriots All Access,' further promoting the achievements of local high school teams and coaches.
