What's Happening?
The J.W. & M.H. Straker Charitable Foundation has distributed over $6 million in grants throughout 2025, supporting a diverse array of projects and updating its grantmaking processes. The foundation awarded
several large grants exceeding $150,000 to local organizations, including the City of Zanesville, which is using the funds to create a pre-event space at Secrest Auditorium. Muskingum Behavioral Health received a significant grant to address infrastructure and programming needs, while the Muskingum Valley Education Service Center launched its Little Farmers Academy with the foundation's support. In total, 34 organizations received regular grants in January, addressing needs from animal care to poverty abatement, community health, arts, and education. Additionally, 23 organizations received small grants under $15,000 in August, benefiting projects like the Zanesville High School Agripark, fire departments, veterans’ programs, and initiatives focused on job readiness and hunger relief.
