What's Happening?
Boscov's has opened a new store at the Mall at Greece Ridge in Rochester, marking its first location in the area. The store's opening day was reserved for individuals who donated $5 to local nonprofits,
receiving a free umbrella in return. The 165,000-square-foot store, which was constructed in just six months, replaces a former two-story Burlington Coat Factory. Boscov's, a family-owned chain headquartered in Reading, Pennsylvania, offers a wide range of products, including a candy counter and a year-round toy section. The store also features extensive women's clothing departments, catering to petite and plus sizes. The new location has hired 160 staff members and plans to hire 40 more for the holiday season.
Why It's Important?
The opening of Boscov's at Greece Ridge Mall is significant for the local economy, providing new job opportunities and enhancing the retail landscape in Rochester. As the fifth Boscov's store in New York and the 51st overall, this expansion reflects the company's strategy to strengthen its presence in the northeastern United States. The store's unique offerings, such as a candy counter and a comprehensive toy section, may attract a diverse customer base, potentially increasing foot traffic to the mall. Additionally, the store's focus on competitive pricing and a wide range of products could challenge existing retailers in the area.
What's Next?
Boscov's plans to host a series of events to celebrate the store's opening, including a Family Fun Day with giveaways, live music, and appearances by Snoopy. The grand opening will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, performances by local groups, and a fireworks display. These events are likely to draw significant attention and foot traffic to the new store, further establishing Boscov's presence in the Rochester market. The company will continue to focus on hiring additional staff to meet the demands of the upcoming holiday season.
