It covers a wide range of audit activities across government units, authorities, investments, and companies, adhering to the approved 2025 Annual Audit Plan. The report was prepared in line with Oman Vision 2040 objectives and the principles of the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), emphasizing comprehensiveness, clarity, conciseness, accuracy, and objectivity. The SFAAA conducted 194 audit engagements, issuing 194 reports, and referred cases of suspected criminal offenses to the Office of the Attorney General.
Why It's Important?
This annual report is crucial for ensuring transparency, accountability, and integrity within Oman's public sector. By auditing government units, investments, and companies, the SFAAA plays a vital role in safeguarding public funds and promoting good governance. The report's adherence to international standards set by INTOSAI reinforces Oman's commitment to best practices in financial oversight. The referral of suspected criminal offenses to legal authorities demonstrates a robust mechanism for combating corruption and financial irregularities, which is essential for maintaining public trust and investor confidence. Furthermore, the SFAAA's efforts to follow up on the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and monitor the National Integrity Promotion Plan (2022-2030) underscore the nation's dedication to ethical governance and sustainable development, aligning with the broader goals of Oman Vision 2040.
What's Next?
The submission of the annual report marks a key step in Oman's ongoing commitment to financial oversight and integrity. The findings and recommendations within the report will likely inform future policy decisions and administrative reforms across various government entities. The SFAAA will continue its efforts to monitor the implementation of the National Integrity Promotion Plan (2022-2030) and review draft laws and regulations to ensure compliance and efficiency. The authority's ongoing engagement in awareness-raising activities and training programs aims to further protect public funds and promote a culture of integrity. Future audit plans will likely continue to focus on areas identified as high-risk or critical for achieving Oman Vision 2040 objectives, including digital transformation projects and assessments of measures to combat tax evasion.
Beyond the Headlines
The SFAAA's comprehensive audit activities reflect a deeper commitment to institutional strengthening and the long-term sustainability of Oman's economy. By addressing financial and administrative irregularities, the authority contributes to a more stable and predictable business environment, which is attractive to both domestic and international investors. The emphasis on community partnership, as evidenced by handling 1,809 complaints in 2025, highlights a participatory approach to governance where citizens play a role in accountability. This proactive stance against corruption and inefficiency is not just about compliance; it's about fostering a culture of ethical conduct that permeates all levels of government and public life, ultimately enhancing the nation's reputation and its capacity for resilient growth in line with its long-term vision.
