Nearly 280 high school students participated in hands-on health care skills training at the Singing River Healthcare Academy in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. The event featured nine stations covering various medical practices, including phlebotomy, pharmacy,
CPR, and surgery skills. Workforce Development Manager Gayle Brown stated that the academy aims to expose students to health care careers before they enter the workforce, addressing a shortage of health care professionals from college systems. Students also engaged in relay drills to practice putting on protective gear and earned clinical hours towards their Allied Health program requirements. This initiative, hosted twice a year, provides students with a practical understanding of the health care field and helps them visualize potential career paths.
