NTT Docomo has reported a significant advancement in 6G technology by nearly doubling data throughput in outdoor tests using AI-powered wireless systems. The trials, conducted in collaboration with NTT,
Nokia Bell Labs, and SK Telecom, utilized AI to optimize transmission and reception signals across various radio propagation environments. The AI baseband processing was implemented on a GPU server with software-defined radio hardware operating at 4.8GHz. These tests were performed in diverse conditions, including public roads and the Yokosuka R&D Center, aiming to achieve stable performance across different weather conditions, topographies, and vehicle speeds. This development marks a continuation of the 6G AI research partnership announced at MWC last year, involving other partners like Ericsson, Fujitsu, NEC, and testing firms Keysight Technologies and Rohde & Schwarz.
