Aisha Jefferson, currently the corporate communications manager at QuikTrip Corp., shared her career journey at the CSP’s C-Store Women event in San Antonio, Texas. Jefferson began her career at QuikTrip 22
years ago after being impressed by the customer service during a chance stop for gas. Starting as a part-time store employee, she has been promoted nine times, with her most recent promotion requiring a move from Atlanta to Tulsa. Jefferson chairs QuikTrip’s Culture Council, which focuses on fostering inclusion and belonging within the company. QuikTrip, a privately held company founded in 1958, has grown to a more than $11 billion company with over 31,000 employees.
Why It's Important?
Jefferson's story highlights the potential for career advancement within the convenience store industry, which is often overlooked as a viable career path. Her journey from cashier to a leadership role underscores the importance of recognizing and nurturing talent within organizations. QuikTrip's emphasis on customer service and employee development reflects broader trends in the retail sector, where companies are increasingly focusing on employee engagement and satisfaction to drive business success. This approach not only benefits employees but also enhances customer experience, contributing to the company's growth and reputation.
