What's Happening?
Publishing in Color (PIC) held its virtual conference from October 27 to 31, continuing its mission to promote diversity in Christian publishing. Directed by Joyce Dinkins, PIC aims to open the publishing field to voices historically marginalized due
to racial prejudice. The conference featured nearly 40 paid registrants, 32 scholarship recipients, and 30 session speakers, including authors and industry leaders. Sessions covered topics such as book proposal strategies, revision techniques, and the application of Christian ethics to artificial intelligence tools. The event highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by writers of color in an industry dominated by European American content.

The efforts of Publishing in Color are significant in addressing the lack of representation and opportunities for writers of color in the Christian publishing industry. By providing platforms and resources, PIC seeks to overcome systemic barriers and promote ethnic diversity, which is increasingly demanded by audiences. This initiative not only supports individual writers but also contributes to a broader cultural shift towards inclusivity in publishing. The collaboration with the Evangelical Christian Publishing Association further amplifies these efforts, potentially influencing industry standards and practices.
What's Next?
PIC plans to host future events in April and November 2026, alongside launching a new website with additional resources for writers. Joyce Dinkins, along with Linda M. Washington, is set to release a book titled 'Free to Write: Essential Insights to Equip and Encourage Christian Writers of Color' in September 2026. These initiatives aim to sustain momentum in diversifying Christian publishing and providing ongoing support to writers of color.
