What's Happening?
Mexico’s Secretary of Economy Marcelo Ebrard and Arizona State University (ASU) President Michael M. Crow have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Tempe, formalizing binational cooperation to advance North America’s semiconductor sector. This
agreement establishes a framework for long-term collaboration, leveraging resources from both Mexico and ASU to boost the regional semiconductor ecosystem. President Crow emphasized the necessity for North America—comprising Mexico, the United States, and Canada—to collaborate across all levels, including human capital development, technology development, manufacturing, and supply chain security, to compete globally. ASU has already developed specialized courses for the semiconductor industry, such as English for the Semiconductor Industry, Introduction to Microelectronics and Nanoelectronics, and Law for the Semiconductor Industry, enrolling over 30,000 learners from Mexico. Additionally, ASU’s Fulton Schools of Engineering launched the Diversifying Semiconductor Supply Chain program in March, supported by the U.S. Department of State, providing training in semiconductor assembly, testing, and packaging to hundreds of learners.
